Math Night 2018
Thank you to our students and families that participated in last week's Mathnasium event.  Students demonstrated their enthusiasm for the variety of hands-on math activities and enjoyed playing math games with parents and staff.

~Celebrating our SOAR Values~
Our entire school community gathered on Friday morning to celebrate our values of Outstanding Effort and Acts of Kindness.  Students, as well as school groups, were recognized and highlighted throughout the assembly.  Kelly Browne, former FW student and accomplished U18 Women's National Hockey player, shared her personal story and the importance of demonstrating outstanding effort and perseverance every day.  Recognizing the spirit of the Olympics, students read essays, sang songs, performed gymnastics routines, and participated in an Olympic themed relay race with staff members carrying the torch to the finish line.  Congratulations to Mrs. Conley's team for squeaking out a victory over Ms. Screnci's team as they carried the Olympic torch over the finish line!
Kelly Browne speaks to the crowd and answers questions from 3rd grade
students about her recent competition in Russia.

We are so proud of our all our students and these grade-level winners for
displaying "Acts of Kindness" each and every day!

Some first-grade students along with Ms. Bennett's LABBB students share
a song about being kind to everyone.  The song incorporated sign language
which they proudly demonstrated for all students.

Our student-teacher Olympic relay race was the finale of our SOAR assembly.
Thank-you to all the teachers that participated and to our entire student body for sharing
their enthusiasm, kindness, and outstanding effort with us each day at Francis Wyman!

We hope you enjoy a relaxing February vacation!

This week I benefited from the company of Miss Keira & Miss Julia who had worked diligently to save 100 tickets for outstanding effort!  As a reward, we dined together and played a competitive game of Jenga!  Great job ladies - keep working hard.

Grade 5 PE Helpers...
Grade 5 students are willing to "stand on their heads" to be helpful with the
1st grade classes they assist during their intervention block.  These 5th grade
mentors are great role models for our younger students!

Soup for the "Souper Bowl"

Francis Wyman families once again demonstrated their community spirit and amazing support by donating 485 cans of soup to contribute to our local food bank.  These student council members helped to build towers of soup so all students could see how many cans had been donated! Thank you to Student Council for helping to coordinate this effort and to all of you for supporting this worthy community outreach project.
GO PATRIOTS!

Kindergarten Fish Day

Students in all 5 Kindergarten classes enjoyed rotating around to each class to create multiple projects representing the variety of sea life that lives in our oceans.  There were crabs, octopus, sharks, jellyfish, lobsters, and sea urchins "swimming" all around Francis Wyman for the morning!  A colorful, creative ocean mural adorns the Kindergarten halls as a result of their hard work.

Thank you PTO for sponsoring an enjoyable, successful Paint Night fundraiser! Everyone went home with a big smile and a new work of art to share.

A Note from the FW Nurse, Mrs. Hazen...
Flu and cold season is in full swing.  I just wanted to send out a gentle reminder that if your child has a fever or has been vomiting, they need to be out of school for 24 hours after the fever or vomiting has resolved.  If your child is not feeling well, please try to keep them home.  Another reminder, hand washing is the single, most effective method of preventing the spread of colds and flu.  Please make sure that you are encouraging your child to perform proper hand washing throughout the day, and we will be doing the same here at school.  Working together, we can help keep all of our students safe and healthy!
